Lyrics from “Space”
Home
1. Home is where the heart is.
And I suppose that’s true.
That would mean that I'm at home
Whenever I’m with you.
But the distance makes me crazy
I keep searching for “because.”
That's how I know that Love’s just what it does.
2. Never walked the woods this way
Never saw the moon
Never cried so easily
Never wrote a tune
Until there was this tug, this pull,
This weird electric buzz.
That's when I knew that Love is what it does.
3. Why’d I ask that question?
Why’d you talk to me that way?
You maintain you found me first
I think that's hard to say.
Some forces are mysterious
The Tides say Moon’s the cause
We can't always know why love does what it does.
4. We’re stuck inside this airport.
Using up our time.
Riding the conveyor belts
Slipping through the slime.
And we’re traveling together
Our eyes cut through the fuzz,
Focusing on Love and what it does.
5. Gravity is just inferred
Can't be derived or proved.
It’s just a force we live in.
It’s just how we're all moved.
And in the quiet of this moment,
As the planets dance above,
Love’s the same. Love’s just what it does.
6. Home is where the heart is.
And I suppose that's true.
That would mean that I'm at home
Whenever I’m with you.
That would mean that I’m at home
Whenever I’m with you.
That would mean...
I’m at home.
I’m at home.

Trouble in Mind
Trouble in Mind, I’m blue.
But I won’t be blue always,
’Cause the sun’s gonna shine,
On my back door, some of these days.
I’m goin’ down to the river.
Take my rockin’ chair
If the blues overtake me,
Gonna rock away from here.
Instrumental
Oh, my woman, she was troubled.
So she treated me unkind
Takes a whole lotta whiskey
Just to ease a worried mind.
I’m goin’ out to the kitchen
Take my banjo, my best friend.\
Let the strings harmonize
’Til that weary feelin’ ends.
Instrumental
There dark clouds on the horizon
It’s gonna be a sunny day
Yes the wind’s gonna blow
All those storm clouds Away.
I’m only here for a moment
Gonna be gone for long, long while.
Ain’t no time for trouble
I just hang my head and smile.
Instrumental
Trouble in Mind, I’m blue.
But I won’t be blue always, no, no.
’Cause the sun’s gonna shine
On my back door, some of these days.
Yes, the sun’s gonna shine
On my back door, some of these days.
Oh, the sun’s gonna shine
On my back door, ...some of these days.

Yuba City
I came into Yuba as soon as I read
About all of those twenty-five hobos found dead.
I came in to find out if any of the slain
Could answer to my brother’s name.
It might be your brother I just couldn’t say.
We hire lots of floaters who work by the day.
Now I see his photo it might be the same,
But I never did ask him his name.
Well if I had a list and if I only knew
I’d write down their names and I ’d sing them to you.
And when I got done, I’d sing them again,
So you’d all know each one had a name.
He had a room and ran out on the rent.
Hired on a crew I don’t know where he went.
If I knew his boss, well, I might make a claim,
But I never did write down the name.
He stopped in for drinks every now and again.
Never looked no different than hundreds of men.
You know these old bums; they all look the same,
No reason to ask one his name.
Well if I had a list and if I only knew
I’d write down their names and I’d sing them to you.
And when I got done, I’d sing them again,
So you’d all know each one had a name.
We always abandon the old for the new,
And second hand people ge4t tossed away, too.
I know it don’t help but still it explains
Why no one remembers their names.
Well if I had a list and if I only knew
I’d write down their names and I ’d sing them to you.
And when I got done, I’d sing them again,
So you’d all know each one had a name.
You’d know that each one had a name.

The Cuckoo
Oh the cuckoo, she's a pretty bird
She warbles as she flies
But she'll never, sing "Cuckoo"
'Til the fourth day of July
Well sometime, I wonder
What makes women love their men?
Then sometimes, I do wonder
What makes their men love them?
And the cuckoo, she's a pretty bird
She warbles as she flies
But she'll never, sing "Cuckoo"
'Til the fourth day of July
Instrumental
Oh, I've played cards in England
I've played cards in Spain
I will bet you ten dollars
That I'll beat you next game
Jack of Diamonds, Jack of Diamonds
I've known you of old.
You done robbed my poor pockets
Of their silver and their gold.
He will cause you lots of trouble.
He will cause your downfall.
He will cause you hard labor
Behind those prison walls.
So I'm gonna build me a log cabin
On some old mountain side
Where the wild birds can cheer me
When they go flyin' by.
And the cuckoo, she's a pretty bird
She warbles as she flies
But she'll never, sing "Cuckoo"
'Til the fourth day of July.

Lyrics from “Old Magic”
Rain
They say everybody needs a song about the rain.
Grey days hold us close inside
Rhyming pain,
Again and again and again.
About hopes that bleed like tears down the page.
About believing we could change our lives
When only one of us
Knows lives have to change.
And I can hear the rain sob, too
Up in the sad, sogged sky.
Makes me reflect on you and whether someday,
If the sun comes through, I’ll be...so free to cry.
It's good to know when you're living through rainy days.
With your collar up and head hung down
This damp cold,
Stays and stays and stays.
About the years I realized that you weren't the same.
That we'd grow best without you.
So you left
And I kept all the blame.
And I can hear the rain sob, too
Up in the sad, sogged sky.
Makes me reflect on you and whether someday,
If the sun comes through, I'll be...so free to cry.
When we were kids, we’d play out in the rain.
Naked in the backyard, muddy feet,
Drinking sky tears,
With everything to gain.
Guess I'll go outside and join myself again.
Join the tears that we're all made of,
Smile softly,
And dance in all that rain.
And I can hear the rain sob, too
Up in the sad, sogged sky.
Makes me reflect on you and whether someday,
If the sun comes through, I'll be...so free to cry.
So free to cry...So free to cry...Go on and cry...Like a fresh spring rain...early Saturday morning...Come take a walk in the woods with me...We can watch the mist rise. Yeah, life's a mystery. Life's a mystery. You never know weather, weather, whether it's gonna rain. We're all made of rain. We're all made of rain. That's why I love the rain, rain, rain. Don't you love the rain? Don't you love the rain? Don't you love the rain?
They say everybody needs a song about the rain.

One Day with You
I know time’s just an illusion
Made to march us, march us on.
I know it’s darker somewhere,
While here it's nearly dawn.
And I know that we're all really asleep
All we see is fog,
We're just spirits in the mist,
The barking of a dog... The barking of a dog.
And I can feel time passing.
My heart beats, so it’s true.
I'll suspend belief for a timeless time
Just to spend one day with you.
Just to spend one day with you.
Yeah, I realize bodies don’t matter.
We turn to dust, it’s true.
Beauty and feelings are really made up
Of hormones and pheromones and goo.
We got to stop that “feeling” thinking
To reach that “higher plane.”
Passion and physical pleasures
Wash our karma down the drain... Wash our karma down the drain.
And I can feel your breathing.
We touch. I'm new.
I'll suspend belief for a timeless time
And an endless kiss with you,
An endless kiss with you.
I guess I buy that we are on our own.
To do what we need to do.
It's all about me and I’m alone
To cope and muddle through.
They say you see in me what you want to see
And I do the same to you.
Unscrewing up what our parents did to us
And our kids are all messed up too... our kids are all messed up too.
But I know you complete me.
I see my best through you.
I'll suspend belief for a timeless time
And the peace of knowing you,
And the peace of knowing you.
And an endless kiss with you...
Just to spend one day with you...

The Caterpillar Song
Caterpillar, caterpillar, what did you do?
I made a cocoon and I grew and grew.
Then I turned into a butterfly when I made wings,
And I flew in the sky, and I saw new things!
Chorus:
’Cause that's what happens when you're alive,
We learn to change as we struggle to survive.
And that's the gift that we all share,
With our feet on the ground and our heads in the air!
[last line changes with each verse]
There was a squirrel who was digging in the ground.
He was looking for an acorn but it wasn't around.
He knew he had planted it a season ago...
But it grew into a tree in a year or so.
Chorus: (last line...)
With our roots in the ground and our branches in the air!
There was a girl looking up at a tree.
There's an apple up there that she could see,
But her fingers just missed it from way down there...
So she got that apple when she climbed on a chair!
Chorus: (last line...)
... and our hands in the air!"
There was a boy, had trouble in school.
He tried so hard to follow the rules.
But his mind just wandered, day after day,
'Till he learned how to learn in his own special way.
Chorus: (last line ...)
...and our minds in the air!
There was an old man who could no longer talk,
And his legs grew weak so he couldn't walk.
But he used a computer to tell us what he knew.
That old man's mind: it grew and grew!
Chorus: (last line as in first chorus)
Caterpillar, caterpillar, what did you do?
I made a cocoon and I grew and grew.
Then I turned into a butterfly when I made wings,
And I flew in the sky, and I saw new things!
